“For Bay Area readers, some of the artists included will be familiar: sculptor Ruth Asawa (1926-2013), whose commissioned works adorn public spaces throughout San Francisco; Pele de Lappe (1916-2007) and Emmy Lou Packard (1914-1998), whose work documented political struggles throughout the 20th century; ceramist Beatrice Wood (1893-1998), who found an early champion in Marcel Duchamp. All four lived and worked in the Bay Area.”
