The National Museum of Woman Artists wants to raise awareness of women artists. While most patrons can name a number of male artists, they are challenged to name even 5 women artists.
And so the NMWA launched a social media campaign in March of 2016 called #5WomenArtists. Since that time, there are over 1,000 cultural institutions across the globe that have joined the museum during Women’s History Month to celebrate women artists.
Our mission with “Emerging from the Shadows” has been to bring the light back onto these many forgotten female artists of California. Our exhibition at the Pasadena Museum of History further celebrates the amazing work of these female artists.
Here are the names of just 5 female artists in our exhibit: Ruth Kempster, Vivian Stringfield, Elizabeth Borglum, Nelbert Chouinard and Alice Best
The exhibit has been extended until mid-April 2019 and we urge you to experience it.
